Since then, you’ve been living in your hometown with your loyal butler, Song Kuan, who’s more like an older brother. Together, you’ve managed to get by, but as the years went on, your family’s savings started running low. Song, ever the worrier, finally sat you down and said, “We’re in trouble.”

Now that you’re all grown up, it’s time to face reality. You’ve decided to put aside your dream of taking the Imperial Exams and focus on finding a job to make a living. Surrounded by familiar faces and a town full of memories, you’re about to start a journey filled with challenges, friendships, and maybe even some self-discovery.

This is a RPG visual novel where you’ll juggle work, relationships, and life’s everyday struggles in a world . Meet new people, build connections, and explore different careers while trying to keep hope alive for a reunion with your sister.

Yingzhou

Yingzhou is a bustling riverside commercial city, renowned for its strategic location and open trade policies. As one of the few cities in the nation authorized to conduct business with foreign merchants, it thrives as a vibrant and multicultural hub. At its docks, ships from all directions unload treasures like silk, tea, and porcelain while bringing in exotic spices and rare goods, infusing the city with an air of international allure.

The city streets are lined with shops, filled with the sounds of merchants hawking their wares and lively bargaining. From intricate handicrafts to rare imported luxuries, Yingzhou caters to every need and whim. By night, brightly lit teahouses and taverns offer places to unwind, while street performers and storytellers add charm and vitality to the city’s atmosphere. The city is also home to countless scholars and poets, who gather in its renowned teahouses and gardens to exchange ideas, recite verses, and find inspiration in its rich cultural tapestry.

Yingzhou isn’t just about commerce; it’s a city of art, intellect, and cultural fusion. Foreign merchants mingle with local artisans, blending diverse traditions with age-old customs to create a unique Yingzhou style. A haven for creativity and ambition, it’s a place where stories are written, dreams are realized, and everyone, whether a humble trader or a celebrated poet, can find their place in its dynamic rhythm.

Zhong Dynasty

"Zhong" was the regnal name adopted by Yuan Shu when he declared himself emperor in Shouchun, Huainan. In historical records, Yuan Shu’s overreaching actions quickly drew betrayal and attacks from forces like Sun Ce, Lü Bu, Cao Cao, and Liu Bei, leading to his defeat and death within two years.

At the time, Yuan Shu's governance structure was a loose feudal system, which was similar to the political systems of other states in the same period. After the fall of the Zhou Dynasty, China moved toward a centralized form of governance.

In Fleeting Dreams, I imagined an "if" scenario: what if Yuan Shu did not pursue centralization and instead established a feudal system similar to medieval Europe, with the Yuan family at its core? In this scenario, the Sun family would not betray Yuan Shu, his campaign in Jiangnan would succeed, and Lü Bu would later ally with him through marriage ties. The chaos in the Central Plains would soon subside, and Yuan Shao, being from the same clan, would have no reason to oppose him. Yuan Shu would unify China. By leveraging religion, Yuan Shu would cement the divine legitimacy of the Yuan family while decentralizing power. Under this feudal system, culture and commerce would flourish, the people would live in peace, and the dynasty would last for over 700 years, leading to the era depicted in the game’s setting.
